The Elverdal Carousel described here has a base made from glass blasted AISI304 stainless steel, and it comes in a variety of choice of materials. In the partial blow-out seen at the right, it’s shown how the modules enable a variety of customisations from some of the same components. This sitting carousel (ORG2801xY) has a frame, a customisable floorboard, a stabilising edge, and as the lowest part on this rendering, a ball bearing element. On some models meant for this, the floorboard is also known as the standing surface.

The larch customisation has a floorboard made of double-layered larch wood, 1 metre in diameter.

The carousels are playground equipment that are ideal for both playgrounds and public outdoor spaces e.g., parks and schoolyards. They are usually located in connection with or alongside the building or buildings, they serve, like schools, kindergartens etc. But they can also be seen on rooftops, sharing the constructional foundation of the building under it.

Carousels come in a great variety of choices and uses. In the carousel department we have everything from standing carousels and hanging carousels to turning platforms of all sizes and shapes, serving from 1 child to all the classmates at once. The carousels studied here are mostly for 1-4 children at a time.

The carousel is a versatile play equipment. It often encourages socialising, where the children help each other gaining momentum. As well as being fun and a wonderful way to play together, the carousel also gives children a sense of speed, balance and dynamics that improve their motor skills. It strengthens the senses, playing on it develops both the tactile sense and the vestibular sense, also called the balance sense. As the child spins, the child gets an experience of rhythm and timing in relation to body movement, which improves their balance. This provides body control and self-esteem, and research shows that this gives children more energy to focus on other things such as schoolwork.
