Tempered glass is a safety glass that is up to five times stronger than standard float glass of the same thickness. After float glass has been edge-processed it is heated in the tempering furnace, followed by rapid cooling with air. This process induces internal stresses that enhance mechanical resistance and thermal shock durability. Upon breakage, tempered glass fragments into small, relatively harmless pieces.
Tempered glass is used where need for personal safety is required. For example in facades, doors, partitions, railings and/or interior installations.
